Lawrence Vollmer's Obituary
Lawrence W. Vollmer, 83, Harvey, passed away Friday, July 14,2017 at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey. His funeral will be held Friday, July 21 at 11:00 A.M. at the Faith Lutheran Church in Harvey with burial at the St. John's Norfolk Cemetery of rural Drake. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 20 from 4:00 P. M. to 6:00 P. M. at the Faith Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.
Lawrence Wilbert Vollmer, son of Elmer and Magdeline (Lange) Vollmer, was born September 15, 1933 on his grandparent's farm near Anamoose. He grew up on the family farm north of Drake and attended a nearby country school through the eighth grade. Later in life, Lawrence earned his G.E.D. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
On July 8, 1954 he entered the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and in Germany. Following his honorable discharge in 1954, he returned to the family farm near Drake.
In 1958 Lawrence enrolled at the State School of Science in Wahpeton pursuing a career in automotive mechanics and welding. He was later employed at Hublow Implement in Anamoose and Alme Implement in Drake.
On June 22, 1962 he married Audrey McNamara in Drake. They moved to Harvey in 1968 where he was employed with B. J. Ford until his retirement in 1998.
Lawrence spent his retirement enjoying his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and creating things with his hands. He always had a story to tell.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; his children, Marianne (Doug) Keller of Harvey, Steven (Julie) Vollmer of Eden Prairie, MN, Cynthia Hansen of Fargo and Lynette Vollmer of Fargo; 6 grandchildren, Laura Vollmer, Matthew Vollmer, Nicholas Vollmer, Christopher Keller, Kathryn Vollmer and Eric Keller; brother, Dennis (Bonnie) Vollmer of Drake and sister, Marlene (Dick) Bartz of Valley City.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LeRoy and an infant brother; sisters, Elnora and Delores; and son-in-law, Jeff Hansen.
