Leonard Wiesz, 85, rural Fessenden, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck. His funeral will be held Monday, March 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden with burial in the Heaton Cemetery of Heaton. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Leonard Wiesz, son of Henry and Luella (Austin) Wiesz, was born December 30, 1930 at Hurdsfield where he grew up and began farming with his father at an early age. He attended Hurdsfield Public School, graduating in 1949.

On June 28, 1953, Leonard was united in marriage to Alice Reichenberger at Cathay. Later that year, he entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, they made their home in the Hurdsfield area and where Leonard resumed farming. In 1959 they moved to a farm southwest of Fessenden where they resided until 1963 when they moved to a farm in the Heaton area where they have farmed and ranched since.

Leonard was a member of the Bowdon Lutheran Church. He served as Co-leader of the Rocky Run 4-H Club and on the Wells County 4-H Council for several years. He was also active in the South Cottonwood Farmers Union Local, serving as president for five years.

He loved the farm and spending time with his family, especially time spent hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife Alice; 4 sons, Chuck (Dodi) of Carrington, Curtis (Sheila) of Heaton, Craig of Carrington and James of rural Fessenden; 2 daughters, Judy Wegner of Frazee, MN and Julie (Norman) Dionne of rural Harvey; 9 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Adeline (Robert) Black of Phoenix, AZ; and 1 half-sister, Bonnie (Marcel) Grondahl of Magalia, Ca.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Donald.
