LeRoy J. Koenig, 94, Jamestown, North Dakota formerly of Bowdon, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023 at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bowdon Community Church of God, Bowdon, North Dakota.  Pastor Dale Peaslee will officiate and burial will be in the Wayside Cemetery in the spring.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden, North Dakota.

LeRoy Jacob Koenig was born May 6th, 1928 to Henry and Eva Koenig at the family farm south of Chaseley, ND.

LeRoy went to a country school for 8 years and then graduated from Bowdon High School in 1946.

He worked on the family farm until he married his love, Betty Nelson on August 11th, 1950. The two spent 71 1/2 years of married life together. They moved to a farm south of Bowdon and later also farmed in Robinson and Chaseley area. After leaving farming they moved to Hurdsfield in the fall of 1957 where he worked for Wells County and in his spare time also farmed with his dad. He was mayor of Hurdsfield for 4 years and justice of the peace for several. He helped form the Hurdsfield Lions Club. In 1980 they moved to Steele and farmed, returning to Bowdon in 1982 and working for Wells County again. In 1994 he retired with 35 years total. While in Bowdon he served on the town board and continued to farm on the family farm for many years.

LeRoy is survived by his children, Beth (Don) Renteria, Oak Creek, WI; Marty (Nancy) Koenig, Jamestown, ND, five grandchildren, Manetta Melotik, Joey Amerman, Tracy (Karla) Koenig, Marnie (Michael) Gerkhardt, Mandy (Aaron) Renteria-Paul and ten great-grandchildren, Kayla & Kyle Melotik, Steven & Katie Amerman, Kaylee & Karter Koenig, Sutton and Cassion Gerkhardt, Eva and Jake Paul, one sister-in-law, Carol Whiteman, Bismarck. Also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents and two sons, Hal and Todd. 2 brothers, Everett & Bill and one sister Margaret, also three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

Memorials preferred to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center or the donor's choice.
