Lillian D. "Gen" Cossette, 83, longtime resident of Quilcene,WA went to her final rest after a short, but brave, battle with cancer on March 30, 2014.

Gen was born on July 24, 1929, in Fessenden, North Dakota, to the late Daniel and Dorothea Schmidt as the youngest of 16 children. She was married for eternity to her loving husband, Russell "Coach" Cossette, on April 4, 1948. Coach was summoned to the Heavenly Gymnasium on December 27, 1995. They lived together in Minot and Maxbass, North Dakota; Seattle; and since 1957 in Quilcene.

Gen was a loving mother to 4 children, later working as a veneer inspector and a processor and packer of ornamental greenery. Through the years, however, one of her greatest impacts was as a volunteer aide and care-giver to several poor, ill, handicapped, or elderly residents of Quilcene.

Her "spare" time was devoted to two main activities. First, as Mrs. Coach she was an ardent supporter of Quilcene High School and its extracurricular programs. She was also a dedicated bowler, participating on teams and in leagues from the Olympic Peninsula to the Kitsap Peninsula. She was a regular participant at the lanes in Silverdale up until just before her passing.

Gen is survived by her children: Greg (Leigh) of Post Falls, Idaho; Nancy Moody of Spanaway, Washington; Connee (George) Slack of Puyallup, Washington; and Jolene (Kevin) Cossette-Ellis of Port Townsend, Washington. She is loved by 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by a brother, Fred Schmidt of Minot, North Dakota, and two sisters, Alvena Severson, of Bismarck, North Dakota, and Virginia Overby as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was an exceptionally loving, supportive, sacrificing, and protective matron to those who meant the most to her. It is these remarkable traits that will be missed so greatly by her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that random acts of kindness and generosity be performed in her name for as long as she remains in your memory.

There was a celebration of Gen's life on Saturday, April 12, at Logger's Landing in Quilcene. She will be interred next to her parents at Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Local arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
