Mae Bell Ziegler, 88, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Drake, ND, passed away peacefully at Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, MN on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

A public grave side service will be held on Friday, September 4, at 11:00 A.M. at the Drake City Cemetery in Drake where Mae will be laid to rest beside her husband Virgil. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.

CDC recommendations including social distancing, hand sanitizing, wearing masks, and staying away if not feeling well are encouraged.

Mae Bakken, daughter of Theodore and Mamie (Vollmer) Bakken was born May 31, 1932 at Drake, ND. She graduated from Drake High School in 1950. Mae was united in marriage on March 17, 1951 to Virgil M. Ziegler at Drake, ND. Having earned a teaching certificate, Mae taught at a country grade school near Drake while Virgil served in the military. Following Virgil's discharge, they lived in Minot until the fall of 1957 when they returned to the Drake area and farmed until moving into Drake in 1977. Mae and Virgil continued to live in Drake until moving into assisted living, first at Minot and then onto Fargo in 2010. Virgil passed away in June of 2011 after which Mae moved into Eventide Lutheran Home.

While living in Drake, Mae was very active in the Trinity Lutheran Church and in the American Legion Auxiliary of Drake.

Mae was truly a caring, kind and loving person. She was quick to smile and befriend those who needed it most. She loved her family and thoroughly enjoyed her two grandchildren Erin and Eric. There was nothing she would not do for them as they were growing up.

She is survived by her son Lynn (Sherie Koby) Ziegler, Lake Park, MN; granddaughter Erin (Bryan) Petersen, Moorhead, MN; brother Lyle (Maren) Bakken, Sun City West, AZ; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Weninger and Rose Miller; brothers-in-law Pete Ziegler and Louie Ziegler; great grandchildren Jack & Grace Petersen and Anna Ziegler Merwin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil; grandson Eric; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
