Marcella M. Vollhardt, 89, rural Drake, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the Trinity Hospital in Minot. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake with burial in the Drake City Cemetery.
Marcella M. Roder, daughter of Edward and Marie (Wiersch) Roder, was born January 7, 1928 at rural Anamoose. In the early 1940s, she moved with her family to a farm southwest of Drake where she was raised. She attended Drake Public School and, following her graduation in 1946, she enrolled in a Minot beautician school.
Marcella was once married to Richard C. Reed. She spent most of her adult life in California and Washington where she was employed with McDonald Douglas, Lockheed and later Boeing Aircraft for 15 years.
On December 24, 1973, she was married to Claude B. Vollhardt in Tacoma, WA. They lived in the Sumner and Port Orchard, WA area for 23 years before moving to Drake where they purchased the Roder family farm, where Marcella grew up, and had resided there since.
Marcella loved animals, especially their Labrador dogs. She also enjoyed gardening, caring for her flowers and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Claude; her sister, Jean Dietrich of Minot, and many nieces and nephews.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Delmer and her sister, Alice.
