Marie Blumhagen, 102, of Drake, passed away Monday, April14, 2014 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey. Her funeral will be held Saturday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake.

Marie Ehrman was born Sept. 13, 1911 at rural Anamoose, N.D. to Jacob and Maria Ehrman. She grew up in the rural Anamoose and Drake areas where she attended school.

On October 17, 1937 she was married to Benjamin Blumhagen at Drake. They lived and farmed six miles southwest of Drake. Following her husband's death on December 24, 1969, she remained on the farm until moving into Drake in November of 1972. She worked as a cook at the K & J Diner in Harvey for 5 years.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake where she was Sunday School Superintendent and active in the women's circle and other church activities. She was a 4-H leader for five years. She also baked and decorated cakes for all occasions. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, fancy work and gardening.

She leaves to mourn her passing her 3 sons, Jerome (Sharon) of Harvey, Arlo (Karen) of Drake and Dwayne (Shirley) of Drake; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
