Marion Thomssen's Obituary
Marion Thomssen, 84, Bismarck, formerly of Anamoose and Harvey, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck.
Marion Darlene Appelt, daughter of Edward and Anna (Buechle) Appelt, was born July 13, 1933 at Anamoose. She was raised on a farm northeast of Martin and received her early education in the Clifton country school near Martin. She then attended the Martin High School for two years before transferring to the Anamoose High School where she graduated in 1952. Following her graduation, she worked at the Chapek Super Valu Store in Anamoose for two years.
On January 27, 1956 she married the love of her life, Wayne Thomssen, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose. They made their home on a farm seven miles north of Martin where they raised their 3 daughters. They lived there for 42 years and, upon retiring, moved into Anamoose in 1997. After Wayne passed away July 21, 2006, Marion moved to Harvey where she lived until moving to Valley View Heights in Bismarck in January of 2018.
She was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church and St. Martin L.W.M.L., and Senior Citizens all of Anamoose. In her earlier years she was active in the Anamoose PTA.
Marion was a great mother, gardener, baker of buns and loved to read and embroider. She will probably be best remembered for her recycling of cards and her letter writing.
She is survived by her daughters, Lynne (Bob) Drees of Grand Forks, Robin Thomssen of Bismarck, and Colleen Gruer of Bismarck; grandchildren, Allyson, Kirsten, & Nichole Drees and Amanda (Eric) Welte & Eric Gruer; brother, Gerald Appelt of Minot; sister, Phyllis (Gene) Lemer of Valley City; sisters-in-law, Fran Appelt of Vancouver, WA, Nadine Appelt of Vancouver, WA, Dorothy Thomssen of Anamoose and Mary Thomssen of Audubon, MN; and brother-in-law, Bill Leier of Bismarck.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents; stepmother, Marion; brother, Lawrence Appelt; brothers-in-law, William and Robert Thomssen; sisters-in-law, Jackie Leier and Donna Appelt; and son-in-law, Bob Gruer.
Funeral: Friday, March 16, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose.
Visitation: 2 hours before the service at the church on Friday.
Burial: St. Martin Lutheran Cemetery
