Marvin H. Wachtel, 86, Maddock, formerly of the Cathay area, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey. His funeral will be held Saturday, November 7, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden with burial at Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Visitation will be held Friday from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden. Marvin Wachtel, son of Henry and Elsie (Schultz) Wachtel, was born August 9, 1934 near Fessenden, ND. He grew up on the Wachtel family farm near Cathay and received his early education at the Emrick School. Following his graduation from Fessenden High School in 1952, Marvin attended the North Dakota Agricultural College, now NDSU, in Fargo, where he completed the agriculture short course. He began farming and raising cattle with his father at an early age.

On November 4, 1957, Marvin was united in marriage to Karroll Norman in Crookston, MN. They made their home on the Wachtel farm where they continued to farm, raise cattle and many other farm animals, all their married lives. Following Karroll's death on March 5, 2007, Marvin remained active on the farm until moving to the Maddock Memorial Home in November of 2012.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising cattle and especially his horses.

He is survived by his sons, Mark (Cheryl) of DelNorte, CO, Scott (Karen) of Littleton, CO, Keith (Sandra) of Fessenden and Tom of rural Cathay; 4 grandchildren; 2 step-grandsons; and 1 sister, Karen (Ken) Wangerud of Littleton, CO.

Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Karroll; his parents; and his brother, George.
