Mary Vorland, 96, Fessenden, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford. Her funeral will be held Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden with burial at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden
Mary Fleming, daughter of David and Anna (Hansen) Fleming, was born October 17, 1917 at Sanborn, ND. At the age of two, she moved with her family to a farm north of Fessenden where she was raised. She attended Fessenden High School, graduating in 1938.
On October 20, 1938, she was married to Herb Vorland at Fessenden.
Mary worked as a waitress at the Conner Hotel Café and the local bowling alley in Fessenden. She also worked at Jordan's Country House near New Rockford and the Town and Country Restaurant in Harvey.
Mary loved to bowl, play golf, dance, play cards and entertain. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always loved grandma's buns.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the ALCW of Fessenden, and the Harvey Eagles Club.
She is survived by her son, Dean (Alicia) Vorland of New Rockford; her daughter, Sandra Weisenberger of Fargo; 6 grandchildren; 16 Great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Herb who passed away Feb. 21, 1994; her parents; 11 brothers and sisters; and her son-in-law, Harry Weisenberger.
