Obituary

Marylou Avis Krause, 95, of New Rockford, ND and formerly of Fessenden, ND passed away peacefully Thursday, September 11, 2025 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.  A Celebration of Marylou's life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden with Pastor Shirley Teske officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden.

Marylou Avis Hawbaker was born October 7, 1929 in Flaxton, ND to Ada (Anderson) and David Hawbaker.  Marylou was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Portal, and raised in Portal, ND graduating from high school in 1947.  She attended Legal Secretarial School in Fargo, and worked for an attorney in Grand Forks where she met UND law student Samuel Dean Krause.  They were married in Portal on April 8, 1950, and after Dean's graduation they moved to Portland, ND - then to Fessenden in 1953 where he was an attorney and later Wells County Judge until 1983.

In Fessenden they raised their 5 children, and Marylou was active in 1st Lutheran Church, Joy Circle, and enjoyed bridge parties, sewing, reading, baking, crossword puzzles, and having daily 'coffee' visits with her friends.   In 1985 they moved to Mesa, AZ.  Dean died in 1990 and several years later Marylou moved back to North Dakota – residing in Minot where she was involved in her church, and got involved in quilting.   In 2010 she moved back to Fessenden and continued to be a member of 1st Lutheran Church, and Joy Circle.

Throughout her life she enjoyed baking and sewing – making her daughter's wedding dresses, and later in life when she got into quilting – she made many quilts to donate, as well as for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.   Marylou moved into LHGS Assisted Living in New Rockford in 2018, and the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd nursing home in 2023.

Marylou is survived by her children: David (Cheri) Jamestown; Marydean (Curtis) Weinmann, New Rockford; Bruce (Paula) Lebanon, OH; Brian, Carrington; Diane (Tim) Roberts, South Ogden, UT.  Grandchildren: Becky (Bryan) Hilbert; Nicole (Brian) Schaffer; Dana (Kevin) Smith; Adam (Louise) Krause,  Megan (Doug) Riva; Dean Krause; Samantha (Justin) Brown, Spencer Ramsey .  Great Grandchildren: Kyleigh, Kadon, Chloe`, William, Brian, Maya, Marshall, Elena, Lincoln, Selah, Liana, Hope, Henry, Laura, sister-in-law Donna Krause and many nieces and nephews.

Marylou was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean;  brother Dale (Gladys) Hawbaker, sister Vada (Ken) Kingsley, sister Ileen (Dennis) Campbell, brother-in-law Dell (Grace) Krause,  half siblings Orth Hawbaker and Maxine(John) Samuelson; nephews David Hawbaker, John (Barbara) Samuelson, Skip Krause; and great granddaughter Isabella Riva.
