Merle J. Schindler, 82, Harvey, formerly of Fessenden, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at the

St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey. His funeral will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden with burial at Hillside Cemetery of Fessenden.

Merle Schindler, son of Julius and Elizabeth (Hauser) Schindler, was born May 29, 1931 near Manfred, ND. His early years were spent in the Manfred area, Lodi, CA and later the Fessenden area where he attended school. The family lived on a farm south of Fessenden which Merle took over in 1972 and continued to farm until retiring in 2002. Following his retirement he worked for a time on the Larry York farm. He moved into Fessenden in 2006 and in 2008 moved to Harvey where he had resided since.

Merle was once married to Bernice Eberle. She passed away June 7, 2011.

He is survived by his daughter, Debra (Bob) Rudel of Yachats, OR; 3 sons, Ronald of Missoula, MT, Jamie of Fessenden and Michael (Gaylene) of Harvey; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Dale of Jamestown and 1 sister, Pearl Sherpo of Tacoma, WA.
