Obituary

Mildred M. Heins, 89, Fargo, formerly of rural Fessenden, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo. Her funeral will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Concordia Lutheran Church of rural Fessenden. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.

Mildred Heins, daughter of C. Henry and Margaret (Scharpen) Heins, was born March 18, 1924 at rural Fessenden. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Fessenden and attended Fessenden Public School, graduating in 1942. She then enrolled at St. Lukes Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo and upon graduating as a Registered Nurse, worked for a short time in hospitals in Texas and Minneapolis. She then accepted a position at St. Lukes Hospital in Fargo where she continued to work for 44 years, most of those years serving as operating room head nurse.

Following her retirement, Mildred continued to reside in Fargo and remained busy doing volunteer work for the Salvation Army, Heirloom Hospice Services, Bethany Retirement Home and at Roger Marris fund raising events and Medora for a number of years.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Fargo.

Mildred is survived by her niece, Marcia (Randy) Johnson of St. Joseph, MO; her nephew, Darrel (Connie) Heins of rural Fessenden; 1 grandnephew, Brady (Crystalyn) Johnson; 3 grandnieces, Alisa (Don) Whitley, Dusti (Eric) Mogren and Kaila (Justin) Muscha; two great-grandnieces, Kathryn Whitley and Kaidynce Mogren; and two great-grandnephews, Hunter Mogren and Harper Muscha.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Walter and Ervin.
