Mircea Lengyel, 90, of Fessenden, formerly of Houston, TX, passed away, Friday, December 15, 2017 at Golden Acres Manor care center in Carrington. Burial will take place in Schnecksville, PA. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.

Mircea Lengyel, son of Theodore and Salustia (Sinca) Lengyel was born May 27, 1927 in Gary, Indiana. Mircea spent much of his early years in Romania where he attended school. When he returned to the United states, he made his home in Canton, Ohio. When he reached the age of 18, World War II was in full swing. Not wanting to be drafted, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Bonhomme Richard until he was honourably discharged in 1946, having earned the rank of Yeoman 3rd class. He then continued his education at the University of Chicago and went on to Loyola University where he received his medical degree. He completed two residencies: one specializing in Rectal Colon Surgery in Allentown, Pennsylvania and the other in General Surgery in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. In 1957 he married Patricia Schellhamer, They made their home in Houston, TX where they raised three girls. He set up a practice and worked at Memorial Baptist Southeast from 1965-2000. Mircea was an extremely knowledgeable man. He enjoyed languages and travel. He was an avid gun collector and enjoyed going to the range for an afternoon of shooting. He loved to fly and after logging forty hours of flight time, he received his pilot's license. Mircea is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia of Fessenden, ND, 3 daughters: Michele Hurst of Fessenden, ND, Suzanne De Pedro of Houston, TX and Alyssa Lengyel of Fessenden, ND, and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
