Myron Helmer Zimmerman, 73, of Carrington, ND and formerly of Fessenden, ND, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at the Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Myron's Family: 1385 3rd Street South Carrington, ND 58421.
Myron was born July 29, 1952 to Helmer and Jean (Ehni) Zimmerman in Harvey, ND. He was raised in Wisconsin before his parents relocated to Fessenden and purchased the family farm. Myron was very active in high school, participating in football and basketball. He also helped his family with the farming and cattle operation, and helped his father with his construction business. Myron graduated from Fessenden High School with the class of 1970.
Myron met the love of his life, Betty Keller, at a dance at the Wells County Fair Grounds, and persuading her to go for a drive in his Camaro. The couple was united in marriage on September 16, 1983 at the St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Harvey, ND. They welcomed a son, Michael, in 1986. Myron and Betty purchased Widiger Bar & Lanes in Fessenden in 1984 and operated Zimmerman Bar & Lane for six years. In 1985, Myron purchased Zimmerman Construction from his father, making him the third generation business owner.
Myron was very active while living in Fessenden. He enjoyed bowling, softball, pool tournaments, sponsoring Demolition Derbies at the Wells County Fair Grounds. Myron was also a member of the Fessenden Jaycee's and Booster Club. He was an avid lover of sports and enjoyed traveling to watch the Minnesota Twins, the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota Timberwolves, NDSU Bison Football, the Harlem Globetrotters, and Monster Truck Rallies.
Myron enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, especially his trips to Bowdon. Every year he looked forward to visiting with classmates at school reunions. Most recently, his favorite past time was spent at the Fitness Center in Carrington, working out Monday through Friday for an hour.
Myron is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty; his son, Michael; brothers, Jerry Zimmerman and David (Sherri) Zimmerman; sister-in-law's, Nancy Mohs, Cleo Hughs, and Connie Keller (Kelly Rudel); numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Helmer and Jean Zimmerman; maternal and paternal grandparents; brother, Steve Zimmerman; brother-in-law's, Bill Hughs and Duane Mohs.
