Orlien Melby , 90, died Monday, November 17, 2014 at Southridge Healthcare Center in Sioux Falls.

He was born January 2, 1924 to Oscar and Bertha Melby at Manfred, ND. He was a graduate of Fessenden High School. He attended Business College in Bismarck, ND. Upon his graduation he worked in Federal offices in Washington, D.C. and Detroit, MI. He entered the military in 1942 and served in WWII in the European Theatre. He was united in marriage to Zelda Rudel on April 23, 1944. He and his wife farmed for16 years. They also owned and operated a men's clothing store in Fessenden, then became affiliated with the ASC Office in Fessenden and later became CED in the Carrington office until his retirement in 1983, when they moved to Sun City, AZ., where they were owners of two men's clothing stores. He and Zelda moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Zelda of 70 1/2 years, one daughter, Sandra Skroch, two grandsons, Jay (Rebecca) Skroch, and Monty (Michelle) Skroch; 5 great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Hannah, Priscilla, Olivia and Benjamin; one sister, Muriel Boyum, Mandan, ND, one brother, Gene (Betty) Melby, Harvey, ND.

He was a member of Bellevue Heights Church in Sun City. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Ruth, Cora and Ethel and 2 brothers, Roy and Kenneth.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Burial was held at Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden, on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Local arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
