Peter 'Pete' Volochenko, 89, of Balfour, ND, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at St. Aloisius SMP Health Long Term Care in Harvey, ND.  Funeral Service will be held at 10:30AM, Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Harvey Faith Lutheran Church in Harvey, ND with Pastor Greg Longtin officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday, September 22, 2024 at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake, ND.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at the Kief Cemetery.

Peter Volochenko, the youngest child of 12, born to Anton and Pauline (Dasenko) Volochenko on June 22, 1935 in Kief, ND, was a fun and loving man. He attended country school south of Kief, ND. He went on to become a farmer. He married Lorraine (Jesz) Volochenko on November 9, 1953. They farmed south of Balfour for many years and had three sons; James, Mark, and Kelly. He retired from farming at age 80 and spent his time with family, helping Lorraine keep the yard in shape, feeding his barn cats, planting and harvesting potatoes, and tinkering in his shed. Pete loved farming and anything to do with tractors, especially going to auction sales to look at more tractors. He was a very outgoing fellow who loved to joke around and became everyone's best friend in an instant. As he got older in age he turned to his grandchildren for help around the yard; cutting trees, other odd jobs, and of course help with his potatoes. He was an excellent father and grandfather and loved his family. He was a kind soul and a lot of friends and neighbors looked up to him. Even if you weren't a niece or nephew, or a grandchild, he was always known as Uncle Pete/Grandpa Pete. He will be missed greatly.

He spent his final year and a few months at St. Aloisius SMP Health Long Term Care in Harvey, where he could bring smiles and laughter to anyone with his sense of humor. His family would like to send a special thank you to the staff for the love and care they provided him. It is there that he passed away on September 18, 2024.

Peter is survived by his sons, Jim (Barb) and Kelly (Pam) of Balfour, ND; grandchildren, Dustin (Natasha) Volochenko, Amanda (Lucas) Presser, Kaitlyn (Peter) Bopp, Karley Volochenko and Kenzie Volochenko; great-grandchildren, Leah, Lani, Drew, and James Volochenko; and sister Darlene Ann (Roy) Olson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine; son, Mark (age 4); parents, Anton and Pauline Volochenko; brothers, Tony, Alvin, Nick, Henry, Tony, Walter, Richard, and Sammy Volochenko; sisters, Dorothy Hinsz and Annie Volochenko; sisters-in-law, Anna (Rust) Volochenko, Joyce (Skorick) Volochenko, Irene (Mock) Volochenko; brothers-in-law, Ben Hinsz and Roy Olson.
