Peter Ziegler, 94, Minot formerly of Drake, North Dakota passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living, Minot.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 9, 2022 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Drake.  Fr. Thomas Graner will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, April 8, 2022 with a rosary and vigil service at 5:00 P.M. at the church.  Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home, Drake, North Dakota.

Peter was born on December 2, 1927 on the family farm near Wellsburg, North Dakota to Andrew and Barbara (Martel) Ziegler.  When he was 12 years old, he started working for others.  On November 24, 1947, he married Helen Reiger in Orrin, North Dakota, in the church he helped build.  Together they raised seven children.

They lived in the Drake area where he drove truck and later started working for the Soo Line Railroad.  He was bumped and they moved to Underwood, North Dakota in 1951.  When he was bumped by the railroad again, they decided to stay in Underwood.  He was a mechanic at the Ford Garage, then later sold cars and was a mechanic at the Chevrolet Garage.

In June of 1964, they moved to Drake, North Dakota, where he worked at Con's Westland Station.  Peter later took it over and ran the station and the Drake Laundromat with his wife.  Later he worked for the Drake Public School for 12 years until he retired.  Helen passed away on July 30, 2008 and in September of that year he moved to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Minot.

Peter loved his family more than anything and was so proud of them all.  He loved fishing and fishing trips.  He enjoyed playing his accordion and harmonica.  He loved to dance and sing.  He left us so many great memories.

Peter is survived by two daughters and four sons, Diana (Waide) Kritsky, Minot, Louise (Daryl) Verbitsky, Butte, ND, Larry (Deb) Ziegler, Bismarck, Kevin (Myra) Ziegler, Minot, George Ziegler, Roseau, MN, and Lee (Linda) Ziegler, Redland, CA;  19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild;  sisters, Rose Miller, Drake, and Evelyn Weninger, Minot; brother, Louie, Bismarck; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Helen, daughter, Gladys Mack, grandson, Shawn Verbitsky and great grandson Jesse Kent, parents, and siblings, Don, Mike, Joe, Andy, Felix, Virgil, Adam, Betty, and John.
