Philip Degenstein, 50, Drake, died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey. His funeral will be held Friday, October 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake, with burial at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake.
Philip Degenstein, son of Philip and Bertha (Fenner) Degenstein, was born November 17, 1962 at Harvey. He grew up in Drake and attended the Drake Public School.
On May 22, 1982, he was married to Geraldine 'Geri' Frey Blom at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake. They made their home in the Minneapolis area where Philip did lawn maintenance work for a number of years. In 1994 they returned to Drake and purchased the local café which they operated until 1999. He then began doing construction work, first as a carpenter and later on a road surveying crew for Harris Construction of Kenmare.
Philip was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Drake.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine 'Geri'; 3 daughters, Tina Blom of Minneaplis, Tara Degenstein of Bismarck and Starr Degenstein of Balfour; his mother, Bertha Degenstein of Drake; 1 sister, Elaine (LeRoy) Miller of Drake; and five brothers, Robert (Judy) of Linn Valley, KS, Clarence of Mohall, Roger (Sheila)of Oakes, Richard (Joleen) of Fondulac, WI and Russell (Shannon) of Harvey.
He was preceded in death by his father.
