Richard D. Norberg, 89, Lisbon, formerly of Butte, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the North Dakota Soldiers Home in Lisbon.  His funeral will be held Wednesday, January 29 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Butte with burial in the Butte Cemetery later in the spring.  Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral at the church.  Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.

Richard Don Norberg, son of George W. and Tillie (Lundbeck) Norberg, was born November 14, 1930 at Butte, ND. He was raised in the Butte area and attended Dogden District School. Richard began working on the family farm at an early age.

On October 25, 1951, Richard entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1953, he worked for the Butte Elevator, the Minot City Works Department and held several jobs in the Butte area through the years. His life in Butte was made much easier by friends and family, but mostly by his beloved nurse, Jerrilyn Johnson.

Richard had been a resident of the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon since January of 2015 and, while there, he attended baseball games, fishing trips and casino trips. He enjoyed playing cards and working on puzzles. The Veterans Home employees and residents became his new family and their acceptance and respect for him was greatly appreciated. He proudly displayed his Purple Heart Medal and other military medals which were framed and hung on his wall. The event in his life which he deemed remarkable was his trip to Washington, D.C. on the Honor Flight.

Richard loved his nieces and nephews and treated them like his own children, always remembering them at Christmas with his popular $2 bills or reaching in his pocket where he always had a coin or two for them.

He also loved his church family and seldom missed services and the fellowship with goodies before and after. Richard was a simple man with a simple lifestyle.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed, and the Lawrence E. Meidl American Legion Post #270 of Butte.

Left to mourn are his brother, Clarence (Margaret) Norberg of Palm Coast, FL; his sister, Eunice Teyler of Alamosa, CO; sister-in-law, Lena Norberg of Kildeer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as the staff at the ND Veterans Home in Lisbon.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Floyd (Dorothy), Earl (Marjo), Gerald (Lila & Arlene), Arnold, Glenn, Dale (Dorothy); sister, Marjorie (Walter) McBeth; nephews, Rick Norberg, Baby Boy McBeth and Gregory Norberg; nieces, Doreen McDermott, Tracy Lynne Teyler and Molly Bea Teyler-Smith and brother-in-law, Harvey Teyler.

Richard's family prefers memorials be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Butte, the Butte American Legion Post or a charity of your choice.
