Robert 'Bob' Suckut, 95, Bowdon, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at his home in Bowdon. His funeral will be held Friday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bowdon Country Seventh-day Adventist Church of rural Bowdon with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.
Robert Suckut, son of Fred and Lydia (Schaubert) Suckut, was born November 10, 1918 at rural Bowdon where he grew up and received his education. He began farming with his father at an early age and later served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for a time, where he learned mechanics.
On March 12, 1942 he was married to the love of his life, Dolores Tebelius, at Steele, ND. They made their home southeast of Bowdon where they farmed until retiring in 1968. In addition to farming, Bob worked part time for several area businesses through the years including Clark Case-IH Dealership of Fessenden, Taylor Propane of Bowdon and Kunz Repair Shop also of Bowdon. Following his retirement, Bob helped his son Randi on the family farm for many years. Bob and Dolores moved into Bowdon in 1978 where they resided since.
Bob was a man who could fix anything that was fixable. He loved gardening and had a garden until the time of his death. He spent many hours fishing and taught his children how to fish. His favorite spots were George's Landing and Smokey's on the Jamestown Reservoir where he would fish in the summer and winter and take the kids along to fish or ice skate. To this day some of them would rather fish than eat.
Bob loved children and if there was a baby in the family it was usually found on his lap. He also loved music and taught himself to play the guitar and harmonica. His children share that passion for music because of his influence.
He was a member of the Bowdon Country Seventh-day Adventist Church. On July 17, 2010 he chose to walk with God and was baptized. Bob is now resting, free from his struggles and waiting for the day when Jesus returns and takes him home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers, Donald, Jake, Roy and Lorance Suckut.
Bob is survived by his wife of 72 years, Dolores; one son, Randi (Pam) Suckut of Bowdon; 3 daughters, Iris (Dan) Giguere of Thompsonville, IL, Dawn (Wilbur) Kutz of Bowdon and Charlotte (Scott) Timothy of Minot; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth (LaVon) Suckut of Richmond, MN and one sister, Garnet (Gilbert) Schander of Bowdon.
