Roberta Lukenbach, 73, Surrey, formerly of the Bowdon and Fessenden area, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Trinity Hospital in Minot. Her funeral will be held Friday, February 14, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Surrey with burial at the Norwich Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, from 3 pm to 6 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday.
Roberta R. Jones, daughter of Lloyd and Ida (Ockert) Jones, was born October 30, 1940 at Bowdon where she was raised. She attended Bowdon Public School, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1958. She then began working at the Wells County ASC office in Fessenden.
On November 30, 1958 she was married to Wayne Lukenbach in Bowdon. They made their home in Fessenden where she continued her employment with the ASC. In 1961 they moved to Surrey and later that year moved to Norwich where they operated the local grocery store for a short time. In 1971 they moved to Surrey and had resided there since. Roberta worked at the Ward County ASC office for ten years and later at Ellison's Department Store in Minot. She then began working for the Surrey Public School and continued for 32 years, primarily as a business manager. She also served as business manager for the Sawyer Public School for several years.
Roberta was an active member and bookkeeper for Hope Lutheran Church, the church WELCA and the Surrey Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Wayne; three sons, Douglas (Garnet) Lukenbach of Harvey, Bryan Lukenbach of Minot and Greg (Laurie Hysjulien) Lukenbach of Minot; 3 grandchildren, Kayla (Jeff Trudeau) Merkle, Kyle (Alicia Dietz) Lukenbach and Kimm Lukenbach; her sister, Laurel Jones of Bowdon; and her sister-in-law, Audrey Jones of Sioux Falls, SD.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Michael Jones.
