Roger Wilcox Deveer's Obituary
Roger Wilcox deVeer,71, passed away on March 19, 2013 surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 5, 1942 to John and Emily (Wilcox) deVeer in Boston, MA. Roger and his sister Janese grew up in Needham, MA. There he met and married his high school sweetheart Marilyn Eaton on June 26, 1965. They were married for 47 wonderful years. Roger, a devoted father, and Marilyn together raised sons Erik (1970) and Gregory (1971).
Roger graduated from Boston University in 1964 and served in the Army reserves. Roger worked as an insurance claims investigator and branch manager for 33 years, spending 23 years in WA state. After retirement, he dedicated his time to hospice work, theological studies, and supported his wife through seminary. As a pastor's wife , Roger became an integral part of the church ministry of Bowdon-Bremen-Concordia Lutheran Churches before going Horseshoe Bend Idaho. The North Dakota people of church and community are dear to both their hearts.
North Dakota, the people and the land, became Roger's home, no matter where he lived. He loved learning about farming and ranching and the prairie. He and Marilyn restored a farmstead where he welcomed the company and friendship of every visitor.
Roger loved being with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, the ocean, computers, ham radio, historical firearms, kite flying, garlic shrimp and huckleberry ice cream. For all the things he loved, nothing surpassed his love for his wife, family, and the Lord.
Roger is survived by his wife Marilyn; sons, Erik (Jessie) of Poulsbo, WA, Gregory (Kelsie) of Bellingham, WA; grandchildren, Avery, Ellison, and Anna; sister Janese deVeer of Plainville, MA. He will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, Horseshoe Bend, Idaho. A memorial service will be held at the Bowdon Lutheran Church in Bowdon on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 10:30 a.m.. Interment will be in Bowdon North Dakota at the Lutheran Cemetery north of town, on August 10, 2013. Arrangements with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
