Roland Haugen, 89, Butte, ND, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private service will be held Wednesday, June 24 at 3:00 P.M. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Butte followed by the committal service at the Butte Cemetery at 3:45 P.M. Those wishing to pay respects may do so at the visitation from 3-6 PM on Tuesday, June 23 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Drake, or at the committal service at the Butte Cemetery on Wednesday. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.

Roland Bruce Haugen, son of Edward and Emma (Rehnstrom) Haugen, was born July 7, 1930 in Fargo. He grew up on the Haugen family farm near Butte and attended a nearby country school. He graduated from Butte High School in 1948 and enrolled at the North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) in Wahpeton where he received an associate degree in Mechanics. In November of 1951, Roland entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge in 1953, Roland continued his education at NDSCS and received an associate degree in Electrical Engineering. He was then offered a position with IBM as a computer engineer in Massachusetts.

On May 4, 1957 Roland was united in marriage to MaryAnn Myer in Saugerties, NY. He remained employed with IBM at numerous locations throughout the United States, eventually settling with his family in Pine Island, MN. Following his retirement, Roland and MaryAnn moved to the Stone House in the country near Butte where they resided until recently moving into Butte.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Lawrence E. Meidl American Legion Post #270 of Butte. He had also served on the Souris Valley Care Center board of directors.

After retiring, Roland used his many talents in mechanical, electrical and carpentry projects to help family members and the community. He taught Sunday School and was Church Council president for many years. He did construction and renovations on the many homes in which they lived and was a fine furniture and staircase builder. Roland deeply loved his God and his family.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, MaryAnn; his children, Linda Haugen of Stewartville, MN, Bryan (Janine) Haugen of Denver, CO, David (Corliss) Haugen of rural Butte and Lisa (Gene) Pritchard of Dennison, MN; 8 grandchildren, Alisha & Mariah, Katherine & Elizabeth, Jennifer & Jason and Cassandra & Dylan; 5 great-grandchildren, Reese & Avery, Hailey Jo & Jackson and Brooklyn; sister-in-law, Dolores Haugen of Butte; and several nieces and nephews.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John and 3 infant brothers.
