Roland Senechal, 83, rural Drake, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Trinity Hospital in Minot. His funeral will be held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose with burial at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery of rural Drake. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake.
Roland Senechal, son of Robert and Adele (Pieske) Senechal, was born December 21, 1932 on the family farm north of Drake where he lived and farmed most of his life. After attending a country school he was drafted into the US Army where he was on the US National Rifle Team. Upon his return from service, he attended NDAC, now NDSU, where he graduated with a degree in Agricultural Sciences.
On June 21, 1958, Roland was married to Elaine Steinke at Carrington. They made their home on the Senechal farm where Roland continued to farm and ranch until his retirement.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Drake until its closure and has since been a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church of Anamoose where he served as a church elder and variety of other offices and roles.
Roland was active in school and community affairs, serving as 4-H leader for over 30 years. He was a crops judging coach and was a state 4-H judge. He was a member of the Anamoose wildlife club and trap shooting team.
Roland was an avid Bison, Vikings and Twins fan. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine; 5 children, Joan Senechal of rural Drake, Neil (Kari) Senechal of Bradenton, FL, Marie Senechal of Centennial, CO, Renee (Brett) Senechal-Jorgensen of Roseau, MN and Amy (Corey) Johnson of Fargo; and 5 grandchildren, Ashley and Amanda Eidmann, Tommi and Xander Johnson and Gabriel Jorgensen.
Roland was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Allen Senechal; his parents, Robert and Adele; 8 brothers, Arthur, Marvin, Raymond, Hubert, Robert, Victor, George and Evan; and 2 sisters, Ruth Boyer and Evelyn Rehder.
