Rueben R. Miiller, 90, Anamoose passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at St. Aloisius Medical Center, Harvey, ND.  Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Anamoose with Revs. Paul Nelson and Larry Marschner officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  The funeral will be livestreamed at https://youtu.be/ag6CxGDfUXM .  Visitation will be Tuesday, May 18, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home, Drake, ND and one hour prior to  services at the church.

Rueben Richard Miiller was born April 27, 1931 on the family farm near Anamoose, the son of Theodore and Marie (Miller) Miiller.  He grew up in rural New Germantown Township and attended grade school there.  After graduation from grade school, he worked on the farm due to his father's health and was unable to attend high school.

He married Janice Smestad on July 6, 1952 in the Lutheran Church south of Martin, North Dakota.  They lived on a rented farm for a short time until he entered the Army.  He was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas and had orders for an overseas assignment, when he received a hardship discharge due to his father's failing health.  He returned home and assumed control over the family farm.

In the mid 60's, Rueben and Janice bought a farm and remained there until October 2, 2020 when Rueben fell ill.

He was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church and served as an Elder and Usher. He was a director on the rural fire department for over 50 years.  Rueben served as a director on the New Germantown Township Board. He was elected to the Martin Elevator Board, and worked part-time at the Martin Elevator for a number of years until his retirement in 1997.  Rueben had a passion for farming and helped on several farms in the area.  When Rueben wasn't farming, you could find him playing cards with family or friends.

Rueben is survived by his wife, Janice, Harvey, ND; children, Ronnie (Terri) Miiller, Olathe, KS; and Sharon (David) Strawn, Fort Smith, AR; two grandchildren, Amy Wards and Cory Miiller; eight step-grandchildren, Tangela Welch, Mindy Smith, Jessica Davis, Cameron Sell, David Strawn, Michelle Kollias, Renea Thorpe, and Rachel Essex; one great-grandchild, William Wards; and numerous step-great-grandchildren;  and one brother, Allen (Kay) Miiller, Grand Rapids, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Herbert, and sister Margaret Weltz.
