Obituary

Ruth Ammon, 99, Anamoose, ND, died Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at SMP St. Aloisius Long Term Care Center in Harvey, ND.   Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM  Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake, ND  with burial at St. Johns Norfolk Cemetery Rural Drake. Reviewal and visitation will begin one hour prior to service.

Ruth was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1925, at her family's farm northeast of Anamoose, ND to Katherine and Jacob Dockter. She was given the name Rachael at birth, but was soon changed after her father's refusal to call her anything besides Ruth. Ruth grew up on the farm and attended rural school through eighth grade and Anamoose High School.

On June 27, 1943, Ruth married Jacob Ammon at the Ebenezer Congregational Church, rural Anamoose. To this marriage, seven children were born, Avonell, Kenny, Jim, Merrilly, Connie, Sherry, and Tom. Jacob and Ruth raised their family on the farm south of Anamoose. Jacob passed away on January 14, 1977. Following his death, Ruth remained on the family farm. A few years later, she moved into Anamoose and began working at the Anamoose School as a cook until 2002, baking many loaves of homemade bread every day. She then helped her daughter, Connie, at the Anamoose Cafe & Bakery.

Family was everything to Ruth. She loved holidays, especially her St. Patricks Day birthday parties which were a huge celebration each year; as well as Ammon Family Oktoberfest and Fourth of July get-togethers. Ruth was a member of the Anamoose VFW Auxiliary and Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and loved her church family.

Her grandchildren will always remember the special times shared with her making schlitzkuechle, strudels, and kuchen in her kitchen or going to visit with a handful of nickels to go play blitz or shake dice with Grandma and Uncle Daniel. Ruth worked hard and loved hard.

Ruth is survived by 5 children, Avonell (Larry) Simonson, Minot; Jim (Carol) Ammon, Anamoose; Connie (Mike) Rudnick, Anamoose; Sherry (Steve) Kuske, Minot; Tom (Jen) Ammon, Harvey; daughter-in-law, Lori Ammon, Minot; son-in-law David Zodrow, Minot; 18 grandchildren, Steven Simonson, Scott Simonson, Nichole Ammon, Jesse (Brenda) Ammon, Nathan (Tanya) Ammon, Chris (Sarah) Ammon, Lindsay (Shane) Koch, Ashley (Neil) Delabarre, Tim (Katreena) Zodrow, Mindy Rudnick, Katie (Brian) Knowles, Sara (Robbie) Schindler, Matthew (Josie) Kuske, Brandyn (Bailey) Kuske, Megdalyn (Brett) Johnson, Haylea (Levi) Faul, Sydney Ammon, Hayden Ammon, 27 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild coming the end of October; sister-in-law Mary Dockter, Anamoose.
