Ruth H. Letvin, 85, Butte, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.
Ruth Miller, daughter of William and Martha (Heydt) Miller, was born March 28, 1928 on her parents farm near Kief where she was raised. She graduated from Kief High School and enrolled at Minot Teachers College. Upon receiving her teaching degree, Ruth taught in rural schools in the Kief area.
On January 25, 1948 she was united in marriage to Alfred Letvin. They began their life together on the Letvin farm near Kief where they farmed and were blessed with their first two children, Ronald and Kathleen. In the early 1950s they moved to a farm in the Butte area and were soon blessed with their younger children, Greg and Rick. Following their retirement they remained on the farm until moving to Velva. Alfred passed away January 11, 2010.
Ruth was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Butte where she served as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, fund raising chairman and was active in the Ladies Aid for many years. She was a very active member of the Lawrence E. Meidl American Legion Post #270 Auxiliary, having served as president and attended many district and state meetings. She was also involved in her children's activities, the school PTA, the local Senior Citizens and Butte's Child Wellness Clinic.
Ruth's outstanding devotion to her family was unsurpassed throughout her entire life. It was very important to her that her children take advantage of every opportunity available to them and she encouraged each of them to do so in their efforts to succeed. She made endless trips to sporting events , cheerleading practices and many other extracurricular activities, along with church functions. Her sacrifices and encouragement have had a significant influence on the success of her children and their families.
She is survived by her children, Ronald of Sioux Falls, SD, Kathleen of West Burlington, IA, and Greg (Julie) of Lockridge, IA; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and her brother, Arnold (Louise) Miller of Minot.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Alfred; her son, Rick; her parents and one sister.
Funeral will be held Saturday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Butte.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home in Drake.
Burial will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Minot.
