Sander M. Ambers, 89, rural Hamberg, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck. Visitation will be held Thursday from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. followed by a family service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden. Burial will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery in New Rockford.

Sander M. Ambers, son of Oscar and Inga (Simenson) Ambers, was born July 12, 1928 in Norway Lake Township northwest of Hamberg. He grew up on the family farm near Hamberg and attended Johnson Country School of rural Heimdal and later the Hamberg Public School. He began farming with his father at an early age.

On March 11, 1953, Sander was united in marriage to Gloria Pederson in New Rockford. They made their home north of Hamberg where they lived and farmed all their married lives. Gloria passed away June 23, 2011.

Sander was a very quiet, hard working man. He was well known for his ability to mechanically repair, weld or fabricate most everything. Neighbors often brought vehicles or farm equipment for him to tune up or repair. After semi-retiring from farming, he used his welding skills to make sculptures and lawn ornaments for family members. He also enjoyed planting and caring for his vegetable garden.

Sander's grandchildren were high priority. When the grandkids visited the farm, all work was postponed to spend time with them. Some of his favorite times were spent pulling them in the wagon behind the 4-wheeler and helping them find and gather chicken eggs.

Sander is survived by his 5 children, David (Barbara) Ambers of Minnewaukan, Linda (Myron) Butterfield of Maddock, Connie Ambers of Minnewaukan, Terry Ambers of rural Hamberg, and Donna (Randy) Eichele of rural Robinson; 3 grandchildren, Colton & Megan Eichele and Errin Ambers; 1 brother, Oscar of Fargo; and 2 sisters, Leona Werner of Great Bend, KS and Norma (Carl) Nicholson of Mandan.

Sander was preceded in death by his wife; his parents and his sister, Betty.
