Scarlett Skiftun, 53, Fessenden, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017 at her home near Fessenden, surrounded by her loved ones. Her funeral will be held Thursday, October 19, at 10:30 A. M. at the First Lutheran Church in Fessenden with burial at the Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00 P. M. to 6:00 P. M. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.

Scarlett Jenieene Thompson, daughter of Gary and Linda (Kahl) Thompson, was born September 24, 1964 at Carrington. Scarlett was raised and educated in Odessa, TX, graduating from Odessa High School in 1983. While attending high school, Scarlett pursued her Cosmetology degree which she also earned in 1983. She then worked as a hairstylist in Odessa for a short time.

In August of 1984, Scarlett returned to North Dakota and lived in the Heaton area. On November 16, 1985 she was married to Larry Skiftun in Fessenden. They lived in the Heaton area until the spring of 1991 when they moved to a farm east of Fessenden where they have since resided.

In addition to working closely at Larry's side on the farm, she home-schooled both of her children through their completion of high school. Scarlett loved tending to the yard which included her garden and many beautiful flower beds. She loved beautiful things, loved to read, quilt and travel. The most important things in her life were her faith and her family. She was an active member of the Church of God in Bowdon and her ladies Bible study. She had been very involved in community affairs including Christmas Anonymous over the last ten years.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; her children, Ryan Skiftun of Fessenden and Dr. Amanda Skiftun of North Liberty, Iowa; her sister, Christina (Jeff) Andres of Jamestown; her maternal-grandmother, Joan Kahl of Carrington; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Scarlett was preceded in death by her parents.
