Obituary

Stanley Martin, 70, Anamoose, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.

Stanley Joseph Martin was born July 8, 1945 in Harvey, ND to Stanus and Magdalena (Mack) Martin. He was the third of six children, all raised on a farm three miles North of Anamoose, ND. Stan graduated from Anamoose High School in 1963 and received his Bachelor's degree from Minot State College.

On June 9, 1967 Stan married the love of his life Norma Schmitz at Harvey. They made their home in Anamoose where, for 40 years, he managed the local bank and insurance agency, as well as serving as city auditor for Anamoose. One of his fondest memories was the 'Roast' put on by the city of Anamoose in appreciation for Stan's dedicated service to the community through the years. Following his retirement, Stan became manager of the Anamoose Senior Housing Complex and remained active in community affairs.

Stan had a wonderful sense of humor and positive outlook on life which he passed along to his three children, Paul, Don and Micki. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time at the Anamoose Café visiting with his dear friends, who, during his 10 month battle with cancer, were so faithful to visit him. A highlight during his final days was a visit from the Centennial Singers, a singing group of which Stan was a member for 12 years.

In addition to singing with the Centennial Singers and the church choir, Stan's hobbies included fishing, yard work, biking, visiting his 6 grandchildren, and, most recently, harassing the medical staff at St. Alexius whom Stan and his family had all grown to love and whose exemplary care was so deeply appreciated. Stan also enjoyed long drives in the country. It was there that he found peace and a sense of connection with God.

Stan is survived by his wife of 48 years, Norma; 2 sons, Paul (Deb) Martin of Lincoln, ND and Don (Lisa) Martin of Bemidji, MN; one daughter, Micki (Mark) Pyszkowskik of Placitas, NM; 6 grandchildren, Allison, Jessica & Erica Martin and Ella, Kate & Jack Martin; 2 brothers, Gerald (Cheri) Martin of Williston and Michael (Karla) Martin of Anamoose; and 2 sisters, Florence (Robert) Crow of Ames, IA and Marianne (Dean) Moos of Bismarck.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Martin.
