Vernon Heer, 82, Anamoose, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at his home. His funeral will be held Wednesday, June 11, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Anamoose with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. Arrangements with Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.

Vernon Heer, son of Carl and Ella (Bolte) Heer, was born September 17, 1931 at rural Anamoose where he lived until moving into Anamoose with his parents at the age of 12. He attended Anamoose Public School, graduating in 1949. He then enrolled at the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton. Vernon returned to Anamoose and farmed with his father, later taking over the family farm.

In 1956 he was married to Alyce Erickson in Drake. They made their home in Anamoose all their married lives with the exception of time spent in Tacoma, WA while Vernon served in the United States Army. In addition to farming, Vernon took on plumbing and heating jobs in the Anamoose area and also drove school bus for many years.

Vernon was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church and served as church cemetery sexton for many years. He was also a former Anamoose Volunteer Fire Department member. He was an avid John Deere toy and buckle collector and enjoyed traveling with his wife Alyce.

He is survived by his wife; 1 son, Alan Heer (companion - Robin Helmenstein) of Bismarck; 2 daughters, Tami Hoaglund and Connie Heer both of Bismarck; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Vernon was preceded in death by his son, Ricky; his parents; son-in-law, Steve Hoaglund and 2 sisters, Edith and Hazel.
