Walter Volochenko, 92, of Butte, ND and formerly of Kief, ND, passed away Monday, July 18, 2022 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND.  Visitation for Friends and Neighbors will take place from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service Friday, July 22, 2022 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church.  Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, July 23, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Butte with Pastor Tim Mantei officiating.  Burial will be at the Kief Cemetery in Kief, North Dakota.

Walter Volochenko, son of Anton and Pauline (Dassenko) Volochenko was born March 20, 1930 on the family farm south of Kief.  He grew up on the Volochenko family farm and attended a nearby country school in Highland Township until the 6 ^th grade.

On November 15, 1953, Walter was united in marriage to Lorraine Plesuk, in a little Baptist Church in Minot.  They farmed on the family homestead.  Walter farmed with his sons, Tom and John, until moving to Butte in 1990.  He continued to drive to the farm to help.  Walter was very adamant on taking care of trees, trimming grass, spraying weeds and watching over the cows.

Walter was a charter board member for the Kief Farmers Elevator and was active in the National Farmers Organization.  He was also a member of Highland Township board, the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Butte, Butte Senior Citizens and lifetime member of the Drake Threshing Association.  Walter enjoyed ice fishing, working on old tractors, wood working, tinkering and making gifts for others especially gag ones just to make anyone laugh. He always had a wise crack or joke, some might not have gotten it but others you will not forget.

Walter is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine; sons, Tom (Lena) of Butte, ND and John (Lillian) of Kief, ND; four grandchildren-his pride & joy, April (Bob) Meckle of Bismarck, ND, Dan (Courtney) Volochenko of Butte, ND, Timothy (Jessica) Volochenko of Butte, ND and Alex (Heidi) Volochenko of Kief, ND; seven great-grandchildren- who kept him a kid at heart, Madalyn, Alexis and Mary Meckle of Bismarck, ND, Braydon and Braxton Volochenko, Tucker and Colten Volochenko of Butte, ND; siblings, Pete (Lorraine) Volochenko, Darlene Anne Olson and Dorothy Hinsz; sister-in-law, LaDonna Volochenko; special cousin, Andy (Wanda) Nikitenko.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers- Tony Sr., Alvin, Nick, Henry, Richard and Sammy.
