Obituary

Walter Ziebarth, 89, Minot, formerly of the Balfour area, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Trinity Hospital in Minot. His funeral will be held Monday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Drake with burial in the Drake City Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. Arrangements with Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake.

Walter Ziebarth, son of William and Elizabeth (Koeppe) Ziebarth, was born November 29, 1925 on the Ziebarth family farm northeast of Balfour where he was raised and attended a nearby country school. As a young boy, it was always in Walt's heart to live his life on the farm, where he farmed and raised Black Angus cattle. Springtime was a special time of the year for him, as he enjoyed the calving season, which brought life to the farm, with all of the little baby calves. Walt's animals were important to him, these included his "cats", especially "Princess", and his two dogs throughout the years, "Rainbow" and "Jake". He lived a simple life and enjoyed the "little things" in such a refreshing way. A good day was playing with the kitties, mowing grass, and driving into the Drake Cenex for a cup of coffee and a visit with friends. If you stopped by the Ziebarth farm you had better plan on staying a couple of hours, as he would always put on a pot of coffee and bring out the cookies. He enjoyed gardening and picking apples in the fall. He had wonderful neighbors, who he appreciated very much.

In the fall of 2014, he moved into Minot to Dakota Terrace Apartments to be closer to his family. He enjoyed the company of his new friends there.

Walter was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Drake. He also enjoyed auction sales, hunting, and old time accordion music. He was a favorite Uncle to his family. His heritage was very important to him. He was proud to live on the Ziebarth Family Farm and be a farmer and rancher.

He is survived by his sister, Ardyce Keller of Bakersfield, CA; 2 sisters-in-law, Ardis Ziebarth of Minot and Dorothy Ziebarth of Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy; and 3 brothers, Clarence, Arthur and Odell.

Memorials may be given in memory of Walt to Trinity Lutheran Church of Drake, The Humane Society of Minot, or 2nd Story of Minot.
