Wayne Lukenbach, 78, Surrey, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 at his home in Surrey. His funeral will be held Monday, January 2, 2017 at 11:00 a. m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Surrey with burial at the Norwich Cemetery of rural Norwich. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home of Fessenden.
Wayne Lukenbach, son of Harry and Mabel (Thorne) Lukenbach, was born April 2, 1938 at rural Hurdsfield where he was raised and educated.
On November 30, 1958 he was married to Roberta Jones in Bowdon. They made their home in Fessenden and later Washington for a short time. They returned to North Dakota in 1961 and moved to Surrey. Later that year they moved to Norwich where they operated the local grocery store for several years. Wayne was also employed with Minot Farmers Elevator until 1963 when he began working for Cenex Seed. They returned to Surrey in 1971 and Wayne continued to work for Cenex Seed until his retirement in 2000. Roberta passed away February 9, 2014.
Wayne was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church of Surrey and the Surrey Senior Citizens. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He also loved driving around with Roberta, seeing different places throughout North Dakota.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Douglas (Garnet) Lukenbach of Harvey, and Bryan Lukenbach and Greg (Laurie Hysjulien) Lukenbach of Minot; 3 grandchildren, Kayla (Jeff) Trudeau of Horace, Kyle (Alicia) Lukenbach of Golden Valley and Kimm Lukenbach of Granville; 2 great-grandchildren, Cooper Trudeau and Ruby Lukenbach; 1 sister, Nellie Whipple of Malone, WA and 1 brother, Harry 'Hal' (Pearl) Lukenbach of Sykeston.
Wayne was preceded in death by his wife; his parents and 8 siblings
